Province clears insurance roadblock to return of amateur sport in B.C. Youth sports organization cannot be held liable for people developing COVID-19 if they're following public health rules, the provincial government says. Read in Vancouver Sun: link

Be nice if Ontario does the same. Although, it's a little late for some groups/teams.

Many associations have already folded for the season. Several sports have just shut down. It will be nice , but may be a little to late. It would be great to have moving forward

So are they going to not hold teams liable for kids getting Measles? Flu?...etc etc...communicable diseases/viruses have never been covered as a "liability" issue anywhere.

While I haven't looked up the stats on Measles or the Flu (both of which have vaccines available), I don't believe they have a 7.8% death rate (based on Ontario numbers)

There are plenty of viruses that we don't have vaccines for: HIV, types of Hepatitus, chicken pox, etc. Each has its own mortality rate, and that rate is affected by age and health factors.
The legal issue came up now because of lawsuits filed against nursing homes and employers regarding covid 19.
However, proving that you contradicted the virus from a specific player, at a specific moment in a game, would be hard if not impossible to do. You would almost need video of an infected player spitting in the mouth if another player to prove transmission.

No, but we have vaccines for those diseases. Fair enough agreed....so then we should add the rather long list of things that we have no vaccine for.....and its a very long list.

It will be interesting to see if this passes in Ontario will PWSA reopen the affiliation? I’m sure the legal issues were what stopped a lot of centres from affiliating... maybe we should start another petition and get some teams back in 🤣

Wasn't just the legal issues, it was also the costs and no tournaments available that I'm sure lead to some decisions.
Stay in and pay $1090 for what may amount to two games, if they go to the double knockout format that was being thrown around? Question is would you pay that same $1090 to enter any tournament here in Ontario if it were just a double knock out? That's what I was facing and the answer was NO.
Once I heard that the majority of teams dropped out of staying in and playing Provincials felt that it wouldn't be the same. To me, and it's just my opinion, with more than 2/3rd of teams opting out, I felt this was just another tournament and not a true Provincial Championship.
Now I know all the teams that stayed in are going to give it their all and should be some exciting games. Unfortuantely not all teams are at the same point for when they can resume play. Might opt to stay in and find you can't even play games until end of July or later.
When we weighed everything it made more sense to stay associated, pay the $75 and practice and play exhibition games. If tournaments happen later it's just an additional $75 for insurance. We debated back and forth but the thing that swayed us was the fact that there wasn't a single tournament to enter. We had heard the border was going to be shut another month so even that option was lost. Paying the $1090 without knowing when or if we can practice/ play games with a full team in the near future didn't make sense.
