So if I am reading that correctly, ball diamonds are now ok to open at the provincial level and is now up to the municipalities. Is that how you are interpreting that?

Still limits on group numbers to 5 max, and also keep in mind nothing has been approved as far as the proposed restrictions to attempt to keep players safe if/when they return...we aren't there quite yet.

That's correct. However, that is not what I was talking about at all. Just that the diamonds were able to open if the municipalities chose to. With all the previous talk of the GTA diamonds being shut down it will be interesting to see if some reverse course now. I agree that until we see the final documents from PWSA, Softball Canada and the government, we aren't going to be getting teams back together.

O reg. 104/20 has been extended until May 29, 2020 which mean no access to ball diamonds until that order has been revoked and not extended.

O reg. 104/20 has been extended until May 29, 2020 which mean no access to ball diamonds until that order has been revoked and not extended. There are different facilities listed prior to May 18 vs May 19. They have removed ball diamonds from the closed list.

The extended reg states the following;
Definition 1. In this Schedule, “outdoor sports amenities” means outdoor sports facilities and multi-use fields, including baseball diamonds, soccer fields, frisbee golf locations, tennis, platform tennis, table tennis and pickleball courts, basketball courts, BMX parks and skate parks.
Application before May 19, 2020 2. All outdoor sports amenities
Application beginning on May 19, 2020 3. All communal facilities intended to be used by persons using outdoor sports amenities, with the exception of those listed in Schedule 2 of O. Reg. 82/20 (Order Under Subsection 7.0.2 (4) - Closure of Places of Non-Essential Businesses).
Before and after both refer to "outdoor sports amenities".

The communal facilities are still closed, not the ammenities. So your washrooms and snack bars etc. the fields themselves are able to open. This is backed up by municipalities such as Toronto and others opening their sports fields. Free to interpret how you like. Have a great day

If people keep going back to their old ways and don't continue to practice social distancing, masks, washing hands etc and numbers keep going up again we will never get back to the diamonds!!!

The numbers are already going up. The likelihood of people doing that is exactly why the variables for a safe environment to host a tournament just aren't realistic. Until there is a vaccine then even the possibility of one illness (heaven forbid a death) just isn't worth it. Personally the best we should hope for this year is an opportunity to get the girls on the field as a team and just run very controlled practices where the variables are much easier to manage.

Don’t buy into the vaccine strategy. There may never be a really effective vaccine as we see for things like the flu. These things mutate and it becomes a moving target. What they aren’t telling you is 70% of the globe will get this in some form. That is true there is no for sure guarantee regarding a vaccine and yes they do mutate, but they also don't get more severe. The next gen of the virus is usually weaker because the virus doesn't want to kill the host. Well that is what my daughter taught me from her University Bio class (mine is the abridged version since most of what she said was above me:). Now this may or may not be true but the virus that is out there is still relatively new and what we know is less then what we don't know. Still all good reasons to not try and bring groups of kids and their families into an environment where you can't control the variables.

How did this thread go from a discussion about softball to an arguement on epidemiology?

LOL fair point. It came from the fact that people seem to think life and presumably softball will return once there is a vaccine...my point is if this is the strategy you may be waiting forever. This is a government created “solution”. How did this thread go from a discussion about softball to an arguement on epidemiology?
