It is true that many athletically skilled players have lost scholarships and roster spots due to social media lapses in judgement. But I implore you as players and parents to also look hard and deep at the social media postings about the coaches you may consider playing for in the future. What a shame to find out after the fact that your new coach has a ten year trail of controversy surrounding their methods and that they have had their own careers cut short or swept under the rug as they move from coaching job to coaching job.
Look closely at their achievements, yes, but dig deeper to find out who they are as people, too. You can always give them the benefit of the doubt and go in with your eyes open. Or you can steer clear and thank your early detective work from saving you a lot of money making a poor choice in the end.
There is a spot somewhere for every girl who wants to play past high school. Find the right fit. The right fit includes getting the best academic education possible.
Don't compromise!!
