In My Opinion, if a family is looking to earn an athletic scholarship or a roster spot (even without scholarship) then this is sort of typical to manage your expectations for U.S. post-secondary opportunities:
Grad Year -- Approximate Age -- Likely outcome of attending
2015 + 18-19-20-21 Not likely recruiting will occur for the older kids but could be valuable for conditioning and training to improve non-varsity playing. 2016 17 Training only. Majority of Colleges done recruiting for this fall. Call coaches and ask them if any openings left 2017 16 Training - some chance that spots in the D2 & D3 schools have roster spots open. D1 unlikely. 2018 15 Good possibility of exposure leading to a roster spot for D3, D2....and the best could get interest of D1 2019 14 Good possibility of roster spot at all levels D1-D2-D3, NAIA, etc. But if a coach expresses interest then you need to have them continue to follow the player over several clinics, tournaments, and showcases to really secure a solid offer 2020 13 Ideal time to get on the radar of a D1 college coach. 2021 12 Mostly useful to acclimatize player to the skills camp environment so that they can really be comfortable when they are 13-14 years old
