Over the hill.. 100% agree Covid has changed the landscape for all sports now and in the future. This is the new reality. Softball is really fortunate in that it will be allowed to start back up with necessary safety measures. The question is not when other sports are starting up but HOW they have managed to do this? I have talked about the new rules, regulations, RTP document and barriers so I'm not going to repeat. The reality is this has left much confusion, frustration and anxiety to all who have an interest in the game. Our athletes need the sport this year more than EVER as they have had so many other things taken away from them. Every effort should be made so that they return in a timely and safe manner.

Baseball Ontario announces that their Return to Play has been such a success that they are permitting 2 events to take place on one diamond. 2 separate groups of 10. While our girls are still sitting on the sidelines wondering when they will get their chance to practice!? Way to go PWSA!

I saw two separate boys teams at Binghamans today. My two daughters are furious. I will leave it there. I told my daughter about Baseball Ontario's latest announcement and she asked why girls were being treated this way!? I told her to email/text PWSA. Maybe they have the answer!?

As other have mentioned all of these different sports have different arrangements with their insurers. It is quite likely some of things we are blaming on one level have very little to do with what they are asking and more what is being passed down to them.
We also should cut some slack to our folks comparing them with Baseball Ontario which is at least 5 to 6 times the size of softball. With the bigger size comes more resources and more capabilities. I've thought for some time that we should all be paying a little more for affiliation and we should hire a couple summer students to help with the work load. We spent three pages of forum discussion gnashing our teeth over a $40 charge for a travel permit so guessing some might object to adding $100 a team to hire some students to make things run a little smoother. I think there is a lot they could do to grow the game for us.
I think we also need to consider there is a still a variety of opinion as to whether ball should be returning. I had a text exchange with an old friend who has been around ball forever who feels pretty strongly we should be moving slower not quicker.
Talking with another friend in South Texas who is now back shutdown as numbers there have spiked back up. California has to impose a cease and desist order on a private softball facility that was attempting to host a tournament before the state was allowing games. Apparently calling it three days of "scrimmage" wasn't quite sufficient deception to throw off the bylaw folks.
The NCAA has extended the dead period on recruiting to the end of August. The White Rock Renegades just posted a couple of days ago about how it was great to get back out and that's BC who had a fraction of our cases.
Ours is not the only sports nor region struggling to get things going again. Hoping we'll all get some good news for Canada Day.

Good comments Tom.
Definitely some opinions that feel strongly on either side of this discussion. Baseball and softball are two different sports. Yes very similar but each has its own hierarchy, voices to the Ministry of Sport etc.
We’ve seen different strategies in the management of entire countries during this global pandemic too. Some more successful at managing what we all want to minimize and that is limiting the amount of people that get sick.
I’ve lived and breathed softball for the 13 years, and I can say it’s sucks to not have one last summer of memories with my daughter. I am hopeful we can get out on the diamonds at some point this summer. If we don’t, we will survive. We’re now two full months into what would have been the 2020 outdoor season already.
I can definitely appreciate the folks here that think softball is getting a raw deal. Time will tell. I really do feel the volunteers we have in positions of leadership are doing their best to ultimately look after the youth that their position expects them to, and for that we have to all respect them. Imagine being a volunteer in the positions making all these decisions. Not likely what anyone invisioned when they put their name forward in the fall of 2019.
As Tom said. Let’s hope for some good news in July. Good news from the standpoint of reducing cases and risk of more outbreaks. As well as good news for the folks that do want to try and make a go of this summer too.
